Envisioning a Gender Just World

Why Now?

The world stands at a critical juncture. The last year-and-a-half has shaken our societies and exposed structural and intersecting inequalities around race, gender, class, and other axes of power and privilege. We have a unique opportunity to build a new world, one that places gender justice at its core. To do this, we have to dismantle the systems that have upheld and perpetuated inequality, and commit to the hard work of shifting and relinquishing power with humility and intention. This will require unique and diverse visions, stories, and solutions from across contexts, borders, and perspectives.

Envision Equality was born out of the desire to share bold and brave ideas about what it will take to achieve a truly just and equitable world. It began as a series of questions asked of a select number of global activists, visionaries, politicians, academics and other thought leaders—namely, what would a gender equal and just world look like and what are the barriers to achieving it. It has become an evolving experiment, as we seek to democratize access to these leaders and their ideas in this space, but just as critically to put them in conversation with voices and visionaries who’ve not historically had the same platforms.

We believe that dismantling unjust systems and building radically just new ones requires a shift in our mindsets, practices, and actions. We believe that this work can only be done in community. We acknowledge and honor the power of our stories and our experiences as vehicles of change. We believe in shifting power, and part of power is in who holds the mic. We are committed to amplifying stories and experiences from visionary leaders from diverse contexts (both known and unknown) and corners of the world, to bring together multiple visions of a gender-just future, as well as powerful stories of change, resistance, and struggle, in the hopes of inspiring and galvanizing collective action toward realizing radical equality.

As we continue this speaker series, we want to live in our aspirations to shift power, to build community, and to uplift multiple visions of a gender just future. We acknowledge that curating speakers and conversations gives us the power to shape the story being shared, and we invite you to submit your questions and suggestions to envisionequalityinfo@gmail.com. We are excited to continue to grow the community and conversation with you, and thank you for joining us.

Who We Are

The Envision Equality project began as a collaboration between the Global Center for Gender Equality at Stanford University, Marianne Schnall (Journalist and Founder of Feminist.com) and the ERA Coalition and Fund for Women’s Equality, all of whom joined together in the hopes of connecting with a diverse group of dreamers and doers to amplify their visions of a gender-just future.

While this journey began with a series of Articles at  Forbes.com and a digital campaign around  #EnvisionEquality, it has morphed into a diverse cacophony of voices, whose collaboration will unlock the pathway to an inclusive and equal future. At this critical juncture, we all have the opportunity to expand our impact and deepen the roots of this movement, and we hope that as we continue to develop, you'll be inspired to share your vision with us.
